PEMBERDAYAAN WARGA KAMPUNG NELAYAN DALAM UPAYA PELESTARIAN HUTAN MANGROVE MELALUI KOMUNIKASI KELOMPOK NELAYAN

Abstract

The existence of mangrove forests have a complex role in human life. Unfortunately, nowadays the damage of mangrove forests is still happened every where. One of the damage is spread along east seashore of regent Sidoarjo. Unresponsible citizen repeatedly damage the mangrove forests along the years. The damage of the mangrove forest is caused by the awareness of people and stakeholder to maintain the conservation of mangrove forest are still low. Major factor which caused the damage of mangrove forests are illegal loging. Mangrove trees are used for firewood, construction wood, wood chip and pulp production, charcoal production, and animal fodder. The activity threated mangrove forests mostly is done by poor people lived along the seashore included the community of fisherman. Refer to the statement above, the researcher attempt to discussed and analize how to empower community of resident fisherman village involved in conservation efforts of mangrove forests through group communication of fishermen. This is based on how big the role of group communication to the members thought. Group communication need factors of conformity, social facility, and polarization so that the influence of group norm in conformity of the member depend on the majority of members which determine assessment. Through the group communication is hoped to increase awareness and action in conservation efforts of mangrove forests. This research uses qualitative descriptive study. There are an activity in the qualitative research that apply inductive thinking process to understand a reality. So that, the reasearcher will directly involve in situation and background of the phenomenon related to the research context.
