Abstract

Education level is the stage of education that is applied based on the level of student
development, the objectives to be achieved, and the will developed. Achievement of educational welfare
in East Java still experiences a high school drop-out rate. Therefore the government provides a solution
by establishing an Amil Zakat Institution that collects zakat funds to be distributed to beneficiaries. One
form of distribution developed is in the field of education and training. Research on the Role of the Amil
Zakat Institution in Empowering Orphans through the Mandiri Enterpreneur Center (MEC) Program in
Surabaya is to find out the real role of the National Orphan Zakat Amil Institution in an effort to help
increase the empowerment of orphans in order to be able to compete with the demands of the times. The
purpose of establishing the Mandiri Entrepreneur Center (MEC) is to produce a generation of orphans
who are independent, performing and having good character. This study also describes various factors
that support and hinder the efforts of the National Amil Zakat Institution in empowering orphans.
Mandiri Entrepreneur Center itself has various soft skills development programs to improve the abilities
of their students. This research is a qualitative research with data collection in the form of interviews and
documentation. While the data analysis technique uses data reduction techniques, data presentation,
and drawing conclusions. The location of this study is at the head office of the National Amil Zakat
Institute (LAZNAS) Yatim Mandiri Surabaya and the Surabaya Mandiri Entrepreneur Center (MEC)
Campus.
